Stay cable bridge, Mondeville, France

The widening of an elevated freeway of Caen in Normandy required the elimination of all existing piers resulting in a roadway suspended from a pylon with stay cables.

The stay cables including DYWIDAG bond socket anchorages were prefabricated in a plant and delivered to the job-site ready for installation.
In order to properly transfer the stay anchorage forces into the superstructure, anchor blocks had to be attached with DYWIDAG multistrand tendons.
The stays were lifted into position with winches so that the anchors could be inserted through the bearing plates.
The anchors were fully grouted for enhanced corrosion protection.

The steel pylon replaces the existing piers and suspends the DYWIDAG stay cables.
